Practical gifts – Granola

DSC07468Great for breakfast on yoghurt or milkRecipe.

6 cups regular, uncooked oatmeal

1/2 cup wheat germ or bran (raw or toasted)

1/2 cup grated coconut

1/4 cup powdered milk (opt.)

1 tsp cinnamon

1/2 tsp nutmeg (opt.)

1 TBS brown sugar

1/4 cup vegetable oil

2 TBS water (opt.)

1/2 cup honey

1 TBS vanilla

Optional: 1/4 c. sesame seeds, 1/2 c raw nuts, seeds, raisins, 1 c. walnuts or pecans, 1 c. currants, 1 c. slivered almonds

In bowl, mix dry ingredients. In saucepan combine oil, honey, water, vanilla and warm them up, stirring; add to dry ingredients.

Spread in greased pan an bake either at 250ºF for one hour or 300ºF for 1/2 hour.

Turn with spatula from time to time. When finished toasting add dried fruit. When cool store in airtight container.
